In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Whiteside is involved in ongoing research and orthopaedic surgery training. After more than 20 years of clinical and biomechanical research, Dr. Whiteside is recognized as one of the leading orthopaedic surgeons and researchers in the world. His work has been published in numerous orthopaedic journals and medical textbooks, and he frequently is invited to speak to other orthopaedic surgeons throughout the world, sharing his clinical and research practices in Europe, Australia, Japan, and South Africa.
Outside the field of medicine, Dr. Whiteside is making a difference in Costa Rica where he is rebuilding a wildlife sanctuary. His goal is to engage the Costa Rican people in preserving the natural habitat, and raise global awareness to the challenges encountered in the rainforest. He has opened a conference center at the 100-acre sanctuary, and has plans to bring visitors to the area to enjoy continuing education programs while experiencing the beauties of the rainforest.
